In reply to Geodon and Respirdal Withdrawal??, posted by vhdhm on December 24, 2002, at 6:31:13
> Hi. I was diagnosed as bi-polar 8 years ago. Since that time I have been taking Lithibid, Klonipin, and Impramine with great results. Recently, I started having panic attacks again. My psychiatrist put me on Geodon and it really screwed me up worse. After a month, I quit taking it and he now has me on a low dosage of Respirdal. I have only been taking this for a few weeks and am going to come off of it. What I would like to know is this..Is it possible that these meds cause withdrawal.

I have had *increased* panic attacks and panic anxiety in the past when I was *withdrawing* from an antipsychotic. I don't know what the deal is with that. The first time was with Thorazine (25mg). I was taking one tablet every day for a year or two and then stopped taking it and that is when my first panic attacks started. They finally got under control with diazepam, and then I had another round of panic associated with AP withdrawal when I got off of low-dose Risperdal about two years ago. I have got a theory that if you are sensitive to AP's you are also extra sensitive to their hormonal effects (due to DA blockade), that could lead to neuroendocrine changes and a possible withdrawal syndrome that may include panic anxiety.
