OTC antiemetic/anti-nauseant for opioid GI S/FX???

Posted by Aadika on December 22, 2002, at 11:38:02

Well, I've been taking Vicoprofen for post-dental-surgery pain (which, I might add, has been unrelenting, excruciating pain since I had the extractions Thursday). It works wonderfully (so well I'm considering talking to my pdoc about opioid therapy to replace all my current meds), but starting about 30 minutes after ingestion and lasting for about an hour, I have unbearable nausea which forces me to lie down and wait it out... this is a major annoyance seeing as how I take the Vicoprofen every four hours, so a lot of the day is spent in bed in the fetal position.....

Does anyone know of a good over-the-counter medication to help with this? I tried marijuana (very high potency) and it didn't help with the nausea, oddly enough. Since the pain has barely diminished since the surgery four days ago, I'll probably be taking the opioid for another week at least. I've thought about Dramamine or Dramamine II... also thought about Benadryl. Any other suggestions? If not, I suppose I'll buy all of those today and try them out. Thanks in advance for any advice. :-)
