Definitely think there are different types of social anxiety. Some people fear dances and parties, but are just fine at a job interview or giving a speech. For others, its quite the opposite. Some people are only uncomfortable in groups. Others are only uncomfortable one on one. Extreme social phobics might fear every type of social interaction. The degree to which every social phobic feels the fear differs too, from mild to moderate to extremely intense anxiety.

I am a social phobic, and I tend to fear groups over one on one interactions and personal over impersonal situations. I also have extreme pessimism/self-deprecation that accompanies any anxiety I experience socially.
