Well, it sounds like you had the right judgment about this medicine. I was on the Effexor for about 7 weeks and my body wan't adjusting to it. I was then put on Prozac Weekly, it took a couple of weeks, I think around three, to kick in but there have been no side effects. I also take Neurotin to help me sleep at night. I hope that this helps!
