Hi all:
As my pdoc reduces adderall, zoloft, depakote, & restoril, he's increasing lamictal. I was also decreasing klonopin because I was up to 3mg at bedtime 'cause I couldn't sleep, but we stopped decreasing it for now. In the last 2 weeks of taking 25mg lamictal, I woke up on 2 separate occasions at 5am and threw up. Since I'm taking so much different stuff, my doc said I should stop the lamictal for a few days to see if it's the culprit of my nausea. So I stopped it, right before he was going to have me increase to 37.5mg for 4 days and then 50mg. After I stopped it for a few days, my mood swings were just getting too extreme, and even though I know I wasn't really up to therapeutic dose of lamictal yet in the first place, I was reminded over these few days of my desire to reach some sort of mood equilibrium-something that I'm desperate for at this point, as I've tried every other mood stabilizer and med combo over the last 7 yrs. Lamictal really sounded like it could be the one to really help me - I have cyclothymia, and other AE's are too sedating, while AD's exacerbate my cycling in the long run. Lithium gave me bad tremors and weakness. Depakote has been tolerable but not very effective. So lamictal sounded like it could actually work for me; but then I got that bad nausea-and, after stopping it for a few days, my pdoc had me resume it at 25mg today, and already my stomach is upset. Has anyone experienced this from lamictal? I'm really sick of the constant med switches and have been wanting so much to settle on something that works, while also simplifying my med regime-as it is, I carry around a bag every day with like 20 pill bottles in it! For those with lamictal experience: does this side-effect sound transient-in other words, is it worth my hanging in there? Or does it warrant my dropping the lamictal? Thanks
