SSRI v TCA

Posted by lrw on November 24, 2002, at 21:26:40

I've tried Paxil and now I'm on Zoloft along with Buspar(to help the sexual dysfunction). It seems to me that the SSRI's just aren't giving me what I need. They work for the anxiety/panic but I feel so crappy on them. Sluggish all day. I have no motivation to do anything. Brushing my teeth is a chore. When I cut back on them I feel so much better physically but then comes the anxiety again. I'm going to start with a new pdoc and I'm wondering how many SSRI's are given a chance before he would go to something else. I'm unwilling to give Effexor a try because of the trouble I had getting off of Paxil. I certainly don't want to go down that road again! What are the chances of taking a different SSRI and not feeling so blah? Would a TCA work? My sisters pdoc put her on Imiprimine and it's working for her. She's been through many SSRI's (all of them I think) and her pdoc just told her that they don't work for her because of metabolizing them to slow (?). The same with my mother. She's on Imiprimine for depression. Could I be just like them and how do I get my new pdoc to let me give a TCA a chance?
