Fish oil. Warning!

Posted by Maximus on November 7, 2002, at 15:52:24

I think personally that fish oil should be taken with a grain of salt. There is too much noise here about it.

Yes, fish oil can be very good for our overall health: brain cell membranes, cholesterol come to mind.

Fish oil (fatty acids) is essential to the body like vitamins are. But that's probably all about it.

Here are the Stoll's advices:

- You shouldn't take fish oil capsules for depression or any other condition without consulting a doctor.

- He also cautions depressed or bipolar patients not to stop using their medications.

- ***It must be remembered that fish oil supplements are generally used as an addition to therapy rather than as a replacement.***

- The majority of people taking fish oil supplements develop loose stools, and some experience problematic diarrhea or nausea at high doses.

- Try to ingest one or two grams (1,000 to 2,000 milligrams) of omega-3s every day.

Good spoon :-)

Best regards,

Max
