today my OCD symptoms worsens- obsessions and compulsions rear their ugliest head...
They cause extreme distress to me that I had to go back home halfway during work. Then I recalled changes that may cause the surge in obsessions and compulsions.
1. I was on 4 prozac (80mg). A few days ago, I switched to 3 (60mg) and then back to 4 (80mg) again.
Could this change upset the serotonin balance?2. There was a woman with OCD who had a relapse when her diazepam was withdrawn. When she had a diazepam reinstated, her OC symptoms subside. Similarly, I was on Xanax. A few days ago, I missed my Xanax. Could Benzos and the GABA system be involved in OCD?
3. It's been more than 2 weeks since I last ate my 2 bananas daily. Could the lack of bananas equal to the lack of 5HTP, inositol and pottasium, resulting in rapid worsening symptoms?
4. A few days ago, I started on 500mg Vitamin C. Then I was on 1500mg vitamin C daily. I had hoped that vitamin C will lower my histamine level, in turn helping to ease my symptoms. Could vitamin C cause worse effects?
5. 2 days ago, I bought choline+inositol supplements. Last night I took 4 tables, which is equal to 2000mg choline and 2000mg inositol. Could this sudden combination exarcebate my OC symptoms?
6. Normally, I would take 2 fish oil pills daily (2000 mg EPA+DHA). Yesterday I was down to 1000mg. Could the sudden drop in EPA+DHA be responsible for the worsening of my symptoms?
Pls help!
PS Today upon reaching home, I took 6 bananas and 3000 mg EPA+DHA, just as a precaution and a test to see whether it restores some sanity back to me.
And kindly reply to alphalht@singnet.com.sg
Thanks!

Subject: Re: [ocd] ADVICE NEEDED ON INOSITOL
Hi Arthur,>Do you have OCD? How do the 6 bananas help?
Yes I have it quite severely. I'm not sure exactly how in a scientific way, but I noticed yesterday I was getting quite a lot of intrusive thoughts and when i thought about it i realised i hadn't had my smoothie for a couple of days because the bananas weren't ripe enough. Now i must admit i was tired as well, and my ocd gets worse when i'm tired, BUT since having the smoothie consistently for quite a while i have noticed the intrusive thoughts becoming less, and having an extra "balanced strength" in my mental state. Now I'm not saying things are perfect with ocd, as i said i have it quite severely, but i definately have noticed an improvement with the intrusive thoughts since upping my banana intake. I've heard before that bananas are very good for all sorts of mental states because they're rich in b vitamins which is evidently important with "nervous" conditions. Also heard similar for oats (porridge) and have heard VERY good stuff about unrefined molasses too. Both of those are also rich in INOSITOL.
>How much does 1 banana contain?
I don't know. I just did a search on google, but haven't found anything that mentions how much is in it. Maybe you can try searching about it
as I'm in a rush and don't have long enough to do a thorough search. I know bananas (and the others i mentioned) are rich in other b vitamins that all are meant to be good for the nervous system and brain. So all the combinations of components probably work together more powerfully than when alone, meaning the actual specific amount of an isolated ingredient isn't necessarily such an important aspect. Let me know if you find out though.I just found out this about molasses from the below url (I quote) : "it is EXTREMELY high in Vitamin B6, in Pantothenic Acid and Inositol;"
