Omega-3 has a blood thinning or anti-clotting effect which is the reason it reduces strokes overall, most strokes being due to blood clotting.Very high doses would be needed to cause actual bleeding and Eskimos take 18g of fish oil daily without bleeding. However it is generally regarded as unwise to take the fish oil if you are on a drug which thins the blood and in the case of certain blood-clotting disorders.
