Please don't give up on yourself. I'm glad you found this board because there are some great people here who care. This is a step in the right direction.
I understand your fear of people because I am terrified around strangers. My tongue gets tied, I tremble and the wrong thing always comes out of my mouth. I've even had people mock me to my face.
A great therapist and/or medication could be in order, but here's another thought. I know it sounds hard right now, but try to find an activity you really enjoy because you'll most likely be good at it. If you can only do it during your spare time so be it. If you can focus on that for a while and get more confident in your abilities, then maybe you can find others who enjoy the same activity and get started there. Online might be a good place to start looking and you might feel safer than conversing in person.
I tell you this because for myself, sneaking time to do things I love has helped me through some very tough emotional or lonely times. One of the things I love to do is knit - it is very therapeutic (and you'll have something to show for your efforts that you can be proud of).Remember, there are many people, besides myself, who care about you that you haven't met yet. Please don't give up.
