The numbing and the norming

Posted by glenn on October 21, 2002, at 14:45:26

The norming, the nasty, the nothing, the newing and the numbing.

Just a little thought , having experienced a lot of meds myself and having read a lot of other peoples experiences I wonder if our experiences can be looked at in the following way.

I am talking here in the main about antidepressants but not exclusively.

The Nothing.

My experience of trycyclics in particular, I can eat them like sweets with no apparent side effects but nothing positive either.

The Nasty.

My experience with paxil and Zoloft. Within 24 hours of Zoloft and 48 hours of paxil I felt much much worse.

The Numbing.

This seems to be the effect for many of ssris, although the “bad” feelings are gone or minimised the person feels very little of anything at all.

The Norming.

A very good response indicated by just feeling perfectly normal .

The New.

Originally attributed in the main to prozac but I have read of other ssris and in particular nardil, the maoi, making people feel better than they ever have done in their lives. Possibly they had always suffered some form of dysthymia or maybe for some certain ads really do transform personality.

Hope you find this interesting, just musing on my part really.

Glenn
