So sorry you had go through that.
That situation was a trigger for you. Not being able to sleep because of an annoyance sucks and agitaion is difficult to stop in it's tracks.
Maybe your mental changes were due to the Depakote but that usually mellows people out. I would think that this issue with your brother, your depression and stress, combined with sleep disturbances just pushed you over the edge.
Sometimes rage is just rage. Happens to the best of us. I am normally a mellow person but when I want to sleep and some sound is annoying me, I am seriously triggered. What helps me is to be mindful of exactly what I am experiencing in my body and mind and just observe it. Don't cling to the agitaiton and don't resist it. Just observe it. I pay attention to my breath. Pretty soon the agitation subsides.
Then again, How long have you been on Effexor? That can cause some agitation for sure.
Bipolar people need special conditions for sleep. It's like we are babies. We need to get to bed at a reasonable hour in a quiet comfortable room. Your brother needs to be more sensitive to your needs.
Take care,
Amy
