I am weaning off of Celexa, yet going through a terrible time with insomnia. My psychiatrist has given me various drugs(Haldol, Starnoc, various other ant-psychotic drugs for some reason, but they either did nothing or made my depression/anxiety worse). Presently I am taking Immovane and ativan to sleep at night, which used to give me horrible hang-over and crying lags during the day. I have been referred to a sleep clinic (FINALLY!!) and hopefully this will help with the insomnia. I tried doubling the Celexa dose (20-40mg), but the side effects were horrible (jaw clenching, grinding at night, more depression, ect). Other SSRIs have side effects as well that I cannot tolerate, so I am trying to get "drug-free"...this is my goal.
Anyhoo...to the point I am trying to make...I have started taking high doses of Magnesium (1200mgs per day), and it seems to get rid of the depression much better than any anti-depressant I have tried. Apparently we are a magnesium-lacking society, which is causing so many depressive disorders and such. Has anyone else heard of this? There is a website that discusses this issue, which I found very informative...
