it sounds like you may need something a little stronger than zoloft. i took it for about 3 months but was still thinking about suicide a lot. i didn't find it that helpful. you really need to be seeing a therapist locally. what you did was an act of self harm. not to make you feel bad about it, it is actually pretty common thing to do when depressed, but it is not something to take lightly. without help you are probably going to be tempted to do worse things, once the shock of what you did wears off. little things lead to big things, bigger risks. there are two things you absolutely must do. you need to talk about how you feel and what you feel like doing to a psychologist and you need to see a psychiatrist, not a regular family dr (from your post, it is hard for me to tell who you saw). Family drs are not trained to handle psychological problems. you wouldn't see a dentist for a stomach problem, would you?

nobody is going to belittle you or blame you or try to make you feel guilty. drs know it takes courage and you really can't shock them very easily either. this is about you, what you need and how you need to get it. it is very simple. (ok, its never easy, but the steps are not that complicated.) you make an appointment with a local psychologist, you go, and you explain your situation. you can get a recommendation from him or her for a good psychiatrist, if you haven't seen one already. it is nice to work with two drs who know of each other. sorry of i sound bossy, but you asked. suicidal moments, when looked back on after you are much better, b/c you will be better, are far less painful than when right in the middle of them. when so far down, the only palce to go is up! :)
