In reply to Wellbutrin. Anyone with a paradoxical experience ?, posted by hiba on October 5, 2002, at 2:07:43
> Hello everyone in this forum,

> After one week of starting therapy with wellbutrin SR 150 mg twice daily, strange things begin to happen in my life. I was not depressed at all prior to taking this medication, but decided to take it because of recurrent depressive episodes. (I can't be off antidepressants for long, or depression will come back again). But wellbutrin is an antidepressant and what it is supposed to do is to elevate mood. Paradoxically I am experiencing those alarming symptoms of a moderate depression right after one week on this medication. Depressed mood, apathy, lack of motivation, tiredness, sleepiness and early morning awakenings. Surprisingly there is no increased anxiety or libido which I heard as a common effect of this drug.
> My question is: I have heard that some antidepressants will worsen depression at the initial stage of treatment and waiting for a couple of weeks or more will resolve this problem. Is it true with wellbutrin ? I swear the symptoms of depression I experience now is a truly drug induced one. Will it resolve over time or should I stop taking it ?
> I am staying in a locality where an appointment with a psychiatrist is very hard to get. My next appointment is at the first of next month. So a professional help is very much impossible at this time. So any suggestions of experienced guys will help me beyond words can describe.
> HIBAHi, I am taking 75mg twice daily (the most I have ever taken). The critical words you mentioned were tiredness and early morning awakenings. I have found that any med that triggers that will make you feel worse, unless you can find a way to sleep soundly. Are you taking the 2nd 150mg SR tab at bedtime? I tried taking a 75mg IR tablet at bedtime once and woke up about 4 hours later and was tired the rest of the day. I plan on going up to 100mg SR twice daily, and taking the 2nd tab approx. 8hrs after I get up in the morning.
