After reading the recent February 2002 MedWatch alert concerning clozapine causing myocarditis I am concerned. I have a family member who is on this drug, who has transiently reported all the symptoms to me. I really didn't make too much of these reports, dismissing them as anxiety, but now I really have my doubts.
How does one make a reliable dx of myocarditis? I have read which tests are used, but it doesn't say what results you should expect, or what the most reliable way to test is.
What should I do here? This individual basically has ALL the symptoms listed in the alert letter, and it has me worried.
Clozapine has really helped this person, so I want to be careful here. But, I think we also need to know definitively.
Thanks!
