Much of depression is caused by living with anxiety...at least that is how I feel and have heard it described by many.

If the valium is used to decrease anxiety which in turn helps you sleep, then yes, it is being used properly.

If the valium was used purely as a sleep aid without the symptoms of anxiety then it would by nature, lose it's sedative effect (as is usual and desireable after a short period for all of the bzds) and one would want to increase the dose to regain the sedative effect.

This is where the results of misprescribing can be misinterpreted as a continuous escallation of the dosage for no apparent reason. Many are confused about the proper usage of these medications - that's why there's so much misinformation out there amongst patients and doctors alike.
