I have had an experience very similiar to yours. Being post-menopausal, I had taken hormone replacement therapy for the past five years, but because of the recent warnings about estrogen being associated with a slight increase in heart disease and breast cancer, my gynecologist instructed me to taper it slowly over a period of two months. I did that, and, about a month later had a huge flare-up of depression, with many of the same symptoms as you- taking hours to get out of bed and having recurrent thoughts of suicide. After an emergency consultation with the gyn, I went back on a lower dose of estrogen/progesterone, and within a few days I was completely over the severe symptoms.
I do have chronic dysthymia with episodes of major depression and am doing some other things to try to improve that. You probably don't need to know about those, but in case you would like to, I have summarized them in a 9/14 post "Re to Pfinstegg>>glenn" on this board. I mention the response to hormones there. I hope that we will hear from other women with similiar experiences, as well as men who have taken testosterone for depression.
