Mark, yes, it does take at least a week to get this stuff stored up- that doesn't mean you won't actually feel effects from it before that. Especially because as one's system builds it up, it's adding a foreign substance.
Within 20 minutes of taking my Celexa, I got this sudden feeling like I was a content little child, very soothing, and that "how sweet it is to be loved by you" lyric running repetitively in my head. I'm a college student. I hate James Taylor. I couldn't even recall what song was going through my head 20 minutes later, not until a few days later.
And I knew full well that SSRIs take 2-4 wks.- I got the feeling before I thought of possible causes, or even remembered I took the drug.
I also got the "stoned" effect within a week or so for a day or two. That occurs in some as the serotonin levels are tweaked around with, during which the body adjusts to the level not previously occuring in the brain. I also got it, surprisingly enough, when I stopped celexa 6 months later.
Moreover, vivid dreams-- and I forgot when mine began occuring- do occur within at least a week or two, and I do remember the excessive, unquenchable yawning within the first few days of Celexa.
Yes, it obviously takes awhile to build up any SSRI. Yet the most unique side effects (of the ones listed on the pack) tend to occur and go away within the first few weeks. I swear Celexa didn't do anything for me for the 6 months I was on it, besides give me vivid dreams at the beginning.
When the SSRI makers tell you it takes 2-4 weeks to kick in, they're talking about the actual, therapeutic objective of the drug- not the side effects the mostly occur before then and soon go away.
