I just read a fascinating (and scary) story of pill poppers at a party in 1966.

Besides scarying me with tales of people taking 150-500 mg of amphetimines on a daily basis,(and to replace rest/food, and probably their life!) I learned about a few pills that sound like they would have been exactly what I could use now in a responsible way, had it not been for crazy pill poppers like the ones described in this article that literally crashed the party by having their own parties with pills.
Anyway, desbutal was a combination of Desoxyn (methamphetamine, still available but now only in 5 mg tabs and in Schedule II) and a barbituate of some kind.
Desoxyn is approved for 3+ by the FDA for ADD, but from reading prior posts, the DEA apparently scares docs into not even testing it on patients.
Barbituates are now rarely used, apparently- now replaced with benzos. Just when I was thinking my Klonopin was heavy stuff, apparently these 1960's people had their days with much harder stuff. (By the way, I'm a college student)
There was also dexedrine mixed with a barbituate, called Dexamyl. If you aren't freaked out by this already, go here for a crazy ad by Smith, Kline and French:

My point is this: when will these companies wake up again, and combine a stimulant, even just Ritalin, and mix it with SOMETHING that will not make me incredibly anxious? I have social anxiety, but it only comes out when I have certain triggers. Ritalin not only elevates these triggers, but also generalizes my anxiety.
Given that approx. 20% of ADDers have anxiety, I would think these companies would open up their history books and find a compromise drug that would be similar to desbutal or something.
By the way, I think it's crazy that desoxyn ever became so popular they actually made a niche that combined a barbituate with it, while Ritalin is even more popular than anything before it and docs are still waiting for it to be double-scored or flavored like Adderall is. The stuff is bitter, too!
