The leg, calf, and torso stretches prescribed by my physical therapist provided much better and much longer lasting pain relief for by herniated back disk than 2 Vicodin.
I really thought physical therapy was a waste of my time and an elaborate ploy by my insurance company to avoid paying for back surgery.
But, to my astonishment, it actually worked. I was in constant pain for 6 months and then after about 3 weeks of PT, and doing the stretches at home every day, my back and leg pain was gone!
If I did them every day, I'd probably be pain free forever, but hey, this is the reality: I slack off until the pain comes back, then take Vicodin for a few days until the stretching does it's magic.
