Anybody find Tegretol to be of use?

It doesn't seem no matter how high a dose I have been on Tegretol, it was like taking a sugar pill. (And yes I had my blood levels monitored.)
I just found an old bottle of the stuff in my medicine cabinet. I threw it out, as that was probably the last med to ever do any good for me.
Others...same experience? (Seems so from some of the negative posts on it.)
