If I may take the liberty of helping answering this question. . .
It's very important to know that the medications you have mentioned in your post are controlled substances. Stimulants are generally Schedule II and Xanax is Schedule IV. Doctors are not going to hand these meds out like candy like they do with Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, etc., etc.
I'm afraid the only way you'll be able to get a doctor to prescribe stimulants is if you have gone through extensive testing to make absolutely certain that you have one of the three indications these medications are used for (ADHD/ADD, Narcolpsy and sometimes Obesity).
I know that I had to go through 1.5 months of extensive testing (computer based testing, questionnaires), interviewing, finding out my background, and a complete physical. And even THEN, the doctor will start you on something like Wellbutrin and rule out non-scheduled meds before prescribing psychostimulants. Although "hard time concentrating" and "keeping things organized" are definitely symptoms an ADHDer suffer, I'm not so sure if you'll be able to to convince a doctor that it's a good enough reason to give you what you want.
I didn't have a hard time getting a prescription for Ativan for my anxiety and panic attack tendencies.
I hope I don't offend anyone, but G.P.s are basically useless. The only way you're going to have an official ADD/ADHD diagnosis is if you see a psychiatrist.
With all that said, I think, IMHO, that you should change your approach. Quite frankly what you said might sound a bit suspicious to any doctor. Go to your G.P. (are you on an HMO?), and let him/her know that your anxiety is not improving and ask to try out another drug like Klonopin or Ativan. On the same visit, tell him you need a second opinion with a psychiatrist for your ADHD and to refer you to someone else.
SOoooo, there may be exceptions to what I said so please correct anything I've said if I am wrong. I am just going by personal experience. I am seeing a lot more liberal-thinking doctors that are willing to go beyond the normal scope of thinking to help with people's suffering (e.g., prescribing stimulants for depression, as it is not really done). These are the kinds of doctors you may want to see.
