>Im sorry you feel this way Jay. But I must disagree with you here. Being mad when its appropriate is OK. There are a lot of things to be mad about in the "mental health" profession and being mad about it gives me the motivation to try to change some things. I admit I shouldnt use so much profanity though, you have me there.
> BTW..regarding neurology, they can only prescribe the same drugs any other doctor can. They don't have any magical potions to 'fix' anybody.
Wrong Jay. Neurology is a much MUCH more science oriented branch of medicine. Neurologists understand the brain and the nervous system a hundred times better than your average psychiatrist. These are brain based illnesses we suffer from, they are NOT mysterious "psychological" problems as we have all been brainwashed into believing by the mental health profession.
Did you know that psychiatric medications are classified by the pharmaceutical companies under "Central Nervous System" and not by "Psychiatry" Jay? Did you know that the man who invented ECT was a Neurologist and not a psychiatrist? Did you know that most of the research psychiatrists involved in functional neuroimaging are dually trained in both psychiatry and Neurology?
Did you know Freud was a Neurologist?
Functional neuroimaging for the first time ever is showing that people with severe mental illness have major brain dysfunction. Neurologists are in the best position to continue this functional neuroimaging research and eventually apply it clinically. In fact, Neurologists are ALREADY applying functional neuroimaging to diagnosing parkinsons, epilepsy, alzheimers, dementia and other neuro diseases. Mental illness is going to be next.
Now who would you trust to do your functional neuroimaging studies? A freaking idiot psychiatrist? Or a Neurologist? Id prefer a Neurologist myself. In all honesty, Id be rather nervous to say the least if I knew the person analyzing my SPECT scan was JUST a psychiatrist. I dont know if Id trust the results of the scan.
Neurology should be treating the severely mentally ill. Torrey Fuller says it, Senator Pete Domenici, NM says it, Krapelin said it...psychiatry is a joke. We need high tech solutions to complicated, complex brain diseases.

> Much of medicine is still an 'art' form anyways. It is? Who says so? In the rest of medicine they have medical tests to rule things out objectively. Psychiatry has none. Thats why psychiatry is considered to be an "art" more than science. I call it BULLSHIT.
