Effexor - will it be calming after side effects?

I am wondering if Effexor will be calming after the horrible anxious/agitatioin side effects go away. It is torture, is it worth going through for a month. I am bipolar and pdoc is trying to treat my ADD with this med. I guess I am trying to make a decision whether to ditch it or bear through it. Any advice?
