www.mindfixers.com has a quiz that divides ADD into several subtypes.
Dr. Amen seems to be the main protagonist of limbic ADD as far as I have seen. He also likes spect scans.
According to the website, spect scans pick up a difference of activity of the limbic system in some people and this seems to correlate with people who come up as 'limbic ADD subtype' on his quiz.Personally I don't quite see how it is ADD, since ADD refers to attention which is an executive function belonging to frontal areas or to basal ganglia-frontal circuits.
Unless 'emotional attention' can be considered a valid type of attention. ie that some people may misplace emotion and energy onto unusual areas. That would be a mismatch between needed and delivered emotion or energy and in that sense wouldn't be dissimilar to the way classic ADDers misplace attention to places and times that are not useful.
So I don't think 'limbic ADD' fits in the classic or accepted definition of ADD yet, but it in itself it is surely a valid problem.
