I just got rid my ovaries, am on an estradiol patch, and feel better than anytime in the past twelve years (as long as I remember to change it on schedule). I tried all sorts of hormonal and BC combinations without benefit. I couldn't take Prozac, as it caused pronounced cycling. The PMDD was really complicating my bipolar disorder. In fact, I am beginning to wonder if the bipolar diagnosis was correct and my difficulties were instead caused by hormonal shifts. The perimenopause, starting in the late 30's, was extremely difficult. Postpartum depression was particularly bad after the birth of my third child. I started having severe depression with the onset of puberty. It's hard to ignore the connection. I was reluctant concerning resorting to surgery, but now wish I'd done it a few years back. The insurance covered it, even though it was for "emotional" reasons. My hubby had come to the conclusion that my suicidal state premenstrually was truly life threatening, and he would have fought with them to the death. Most of my hospitalizations occured at the same time in my cycle.
Hope you find some answers.Blessings,
Chris A.
