You could try valerian; that's supposed to make you sleepy. When I first came down with insomnia, doctors told me to try Benedryl. An OTC rememdy that works when I'm sick is Nyquil, and I remember that Contac used to wipe me out; I'd sleep for days.
I have terrible insomnia, and I'm on Serzone for it. Right now, I'm having a relapse, so I'm not feeling very positive. But I know it's only temporary, and I am able to find relief with Sonata, though I can only get about three hours of sleep out of it at this point. Last night, I took two, four hours apart, and got about five and a half hours of sleep.
This hypnotic certainly works for me, but everybody's different. Ambien, though the same drug, doesn't work for me like Sonata does.
Sounds like you are just sitting around doing nothing but thinking about how horrible you feel, which can be worse for you than anything else. Can you go for a jog or do something physical? Can you read or visit with friends or family? Can you get a hug from someone? That often calms anxiety, as does a hot bath.
I don't know what else to tell you except that you should get out of your house and move around. Nothing makes you drowsier than physical exertion and hard work.
I've had three days of bad sleep, but I went out this morning and jogged two miles with my daughter, and then we washed my car for the last two hours (it's a big car!). I'm hoping that will help me tonight.
Good luck to you.
