I'm new here but I desperately need advice so I'll jump right in. I was diagnosed BPII and BPD in Oct. 2000. I was put on Lithium which didn't help but made me toxic enough to need an IV. I tried Prozac which made me hypomanic or something and made me go to the ER for 3 stitches. I was on Geodon and became very ill and VERY suicidal. I was put on Zyprexa which made me gain weight and made me sleep all the time. I have 3 kids so that's not a side effect I can deal with. I'm not on meds or seeing a doc because I lost insurance in December this year. My new insurance will start in a few days, thank goodness. I was put on one medicine at a time but I've noticed most people are on a combination of meds. Was my doc not fighting my problems aggressively enough or is this how they usually start everyone out? I went to him for about a year and a half. My next question is I read a site by a doctor the other day who said the best meds for BP and BPD was to start out on Prozac, and a week later start Tegretol. He said for hypomanic times or times of si or suicidal thoughts to take a Haldol. Has anyone else ever tried this? I guess I'm asking for advice on what the best med or med combination would be for me since I seem to have reactions to every medicine. The only one I didn't react to was Depakote. It took away my migraines but didn't do much else. I only took it two weeks so I'm not sure if I was even on it long enough or not. I'm sorry everyone that I'm rambling but obviously I'm not on meds now and find it difficult to stop my motor mouth. Anyways, I'd appreciate all the advice I can get. Thanks everyone in advance.
