I've got alot of experience here, my friend. I think Dr. Null's regimen is a worthy one for those who have mild to moderate mood disorders, but unfortunately is not enough in itself to cure us folks with the industrial strength kind.
I've fasted, done liver flushes, been a macrobiotic, a pure vegetarian, followed an ayurvedic diet, etc. I now eat a balanced good very fresh diet with no red meat, take good herbs and vitamins, meditate, do yoga, and except for the occassional foray into a chardonnay bender or a toke of good weed, I live a pretty clean and pure life in a small friendly country village with pure mountain air. I don't work because I can't so I don't have the horrible stress of my former high tech job. I'm a 50 year old (well, actually I'll be 51 tomorrow) post menopausal female and I'm constantly told that I look like I'm in my early 30's. I think that all of these things are absolutely necessary to my peace of mind and my health. But along with my fish oil, SAM-e and B12 injections, I'm also taking Remeron, lithium, Ambien to sleep, clonazepam, thyroid, estrogen and progesterone. I have BP-II disorder with soul crushing horrendous depressions and even with my many years of good diet, I cannot survive without my meds. I used to poop out on SSRIs all the time until lithium was added. It has saved my life.
I will never resort to anything but a healthy lifestyle - it's just who I am and how I live - but the suffering I've gone through when trying to fast my way out of a depression caused more damage from the stress of it all than any med could ever do.
You certainly can't lose by following Dr. Null's plan, and we all need to attend to our body, mind, and spirit. But cure major depression? Methinks the man hasn't met the likes of us here on this board. Nasdravia! - Barbara

His eating plan is mostly fresh fruits and vegetables as well as cold water fish for protein. His point is that our problems are caused by our daily diet of chemicals and "dead" food. Does anyone have knowledge of any success with diet?
