THINNING HAIR and Effexor???

Posted by rdroghetti on May 22, 2002, at 15:48:50

After suffering from depression for several years, I started having panic attacks, and that's how I ended up to see a psychiatrist. I was treated for a few months with paroxetina, which i HAD to stop taking because i was feeling like sleeping 20 hours a day. I have to say, thou, after that treatment, i never ever had a panic attack again.
Well, in order to keep treating my depression, the doc switched me to Prozac, which i've been on for 8 years. But besides the common BAD side effects like "KILLED LIBIDO" libido, i also noticed an my HAIR was getting increasingly THINNER AND THINNER, now you can see the scalp thru it (on the other hand, i also have less hairy legs than before). After a suggestion I found on an online forum, i started taking selenium and zinc in high doses; my hair got much better in few months, but i got somehow poisoned from those minerals, in fact my nails started to get cut in vertical, with esthetic and painful effects.

Because of a coming and leaving apathy and asthenia (physical and mental weakness), which prozac was no longer able to solve, my doc gave me today Effexor XR. I'd like to know if any of you taking it, noticed his HAIR THINNING, i'm scared to be bold soon. Please help, and say if you know any treatment or med to fight it.
