Light Treatment effect on the eyes

Posted by Sonia on May 14, 2002, at 11:06:59

Hello,

This is my first post here. I have been able to successfully treat my recurrent Major (winter)Depression with Light treatment, for three consecutive years. (August through March). It's been a major transformation for me, in terms of my whole outlook on life.

I'm finished treatment for this season, but have read some disturbing information regarding the possible long-term effects of light therapy on the eyes. My eye doctor assures me that apart from some dryness, my eyes are fine. But I wondered if there might be slow progressive changes or early-onset eye problems later on in life?

There's a businessman in Canada called Murray Waldman http://www.sunnexbiotech.com/ who believes his green lo-light lamp(priced high at $599 Canadian) is gentler on the eyes and equally effective. It was information on his website that scared me about the negative effects of standard light therapy on the eyes.

Is anyone on this board familiar with this light and would recommend it over the standard type of unit? I've been using the Sadelite lamp from Northern Lights technologies.

I'm not trying to advertise either one of these products. I'm just searching for a second opinion on the Sunnex Lo-lite lamp as a possible alternative for treating SAD.

Thanks kindly for any info.
Sonia
