LAMICTAL concerns, worries, etc.

Posted by Bekka H. on April 24, 2002, at 23:28:32

I read that Lamictal can interfere with the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. This is related to the problem with folate metabolism. Does anyone here know whether taking folate supplements will actually help with this problem?

I also read in the PDR that Lamotrigine binds to melanin-containing tissues in the eye and skin, and it has been found in the uveal tract up to one year after a single dose. I am quite concerned about this because I had a malignant melanoma in situ a few years ago. Has anyone heard anything further about Lamictal's effect on melanin-containing tissues?

Thanks.
Bekka
