Hi- Well I've been on parnate several yrs with a couple brief reprives to try something else. First really big piece of advice make sure you take parnate in divided doses. Yes yes I know many times that people are instructed to take most of their daily dose in morning 20mgs -8:00A.m.........20mgs noon for ex. well forget that many many studies plus my years of personal experience strongly indicate that 10mg at once is max......................Volunteers given 20 mg doses or 30mg doses without exception experienced transient though quite uncomfortable states, some experienced moderate bloodpressure increases but all had some degree of nausea, anxiety and a sense of pressure in their heads. Simply keeping dose to a max of 10 mgs at a time, then 10 mg a couple hrs. latter not only totally relieved all the transient adverse effects but most noticed a much smoother sustained beneficial effect. Parnate is extremely closely related to dexedrine in structure-in fact it's called cyclized dexedrine. Though parnate most definitely is not dexedrine and the behavior manifestations are substantially different, parnate does indeed maintain ""exhibit"" some of the ""SYMPATHOMIMETIC"" effects of the basic amphetamine "phenylethylamine" effect, namely ability to act as a modest ""INDIRECTLY"" acting sympathomimetic drug and thus release norepinephrine. Parnate dose to norepinephrine effect goes in a very particular manner. ..........................................................For 1st hr after the dose - norepinephrine level increases, this initial increase is followed my a substantial lowering for the next 3 hrs below baseline. So this initial norepinephrine releasing effect is contingent on the dose, 10 mg is no problem in fact result is beneficial, however 20mg --30mgdoses at one time - simply cause too large a response which results in the symptomology you describe. Answer to quandry - simply take divided doses. Also always take with food this is a general rule of thumb with just about any med- it levels the bolus peaking that occurs from quick influx of the drug into systemic system- let alone provides a buffer to gastrointestinal irritation which is considerably more likely on empty stomach. .......................................................Finally I'd just say in general parnate is remarkably free of side-effects, I personally experienced absolutely no anxiety nausea etc etc in fact anxiety was greatly reduced without any sedative effect--Good Luck
