Switching meds......how??

I am in the process of trying to quit a TCA. The doctor wants to get me stable on something else, tried remeron but to space. So, I was wondering what method anyone else has used to switch meds. I can see getting stable on something first then dropping the old, but won't the med combo be different than either one alone? Any thoughts?Thanks
