I know nothing about Xanax taken in isolation, but I can assure you it *strongly* potentiates the effects of at least some antidepressant drugs taken together with, which fact is fairly consistent with its (attributed) ability to elevate serotonin levels.
By what means it achieves this (if actually it does), though, I unfortunately have no clue. But would like to know as much as you do.Iago
