> I just stumbled upon this website for the first time today because I am trying to some research before I visit my pdoc. I've been on Celexa for about a year and I don't think it is working anymore. I am more depressed than I can ever remember and have suicidal thoughts I never used to have. Some people have recommended Effexor to me but I had never heard of it before that. I really feel that I need a switch and have tried Welbutrin and Zoloft before with no responce. I'm very concerned about HOW to switch. Do I need to wean myself off of Celexa. I notice that when I don't take it for even a few days I am extremely irritable. I am currently on 40mg. I would love any advice about switching or Effexor since I don't know much about it! Thanks!!
Your doc will probably have you go down to 20 mgs of Celexa for a week or so and then switch you to Effexor (either 37.5 or 75 mgs of XR most likely). I had terrible side effects the first time I took Celexa but they passed and I was on Celexa (40 mgs) for about 8 months or so when it stopped working and I switched to Effexor. No problems/side effects for me whatsoever with the switch although I had to get up to 225 mgs before it relieved most of my depressive symptoms. Was on it about a year.
Good luck.
