In reply to What is SOCIAL PHOBIA? Thanks, posted by JGm on March 30, 2002, at 10:17:48
As I understand it, social phobia is an inability or difficulty socializing with others; in other words, you are uncomfortable or unable to interact with most other people in an easy and accepted manner. I used to think of myself as "suffering" from social phobia until I learned to think of it in a different manner: I began to feel sorry for people who could not stand to be alone. How terrible it must be, always depending on others to entertain us, unable or unwilling to live with our own company. We social "misfits" are really the lucky ones - capable of independent thought, able to survive without the blessings of others, uninvolved with the petty, stupid little dramas that keep so many other people amused, since there is nothing else of importance going on in their lives.
