I'm a psychiatric nurse and have seen dramatic results in several individuals who were started on mood stabilizers in addition to their antidepressant medication. There are so many people out there that are walking around with the wrong diagnosis. I suggest you read this book; "Why your depression isn't getting better" This is an excellent book about the epidimic of undiagnosed bipolar disorders. The author is Michael R. Bartos MD. There is a very broad spectrum to bipolar disorders that many people are unaware of.

Dear Polarbear,

I have not responded to antidepressants. Will any mood stabilizer help a depressed individual with an underlying bipolar spectrum disorder? Or does it have to be lithium or lamictal (Mood stablizers with antidepressant activity)?

Thanks,

Tye
