In reply to a few days on Prozac, Xanax = miserable, posted by m3 on March 19, 2002, at 23:59:30
This is just my very humble opinion, but 5 days doesn't sound *long enough* to be sure if the Prozac and/or Xanax are causing the 16-hour sleep thing for you. One of the things I hate about the med trials is waiting to see if what seem to be side effects (like your needing so much sleep) wear off and also waiting to see if the darn meds are even going to kick in and work.
Interesting to hear your experience with Serzone, which I was contemplating taking but I hear it is quite sedating and does little for depression. I think it's mainly a sleeping pill.
For what it's worth, I can relate to your feeling
miserable and totally lacking energy. Same here.I'm on several meds (aren't we all?!) including EffexorXR 150 mg (the most I seem to be able to tolerate) and I'm wondering why did you STOP the Effexor since you said that while you were o it you were "stable and functional"?
What bothered you about the Effexor to the point that you stopped it? Was it the "anhedonic" effect (I've never heard that word, I'm guessing it means feeling kind of numbed out, not enjoying anything)?
I wish I could give you an answer to what is causing your troubling symptoms, but you've got several variables going on at the same time so it's impossible to tell.
However, at this point I'd give the Prozac and Xanax a little more time, esp. the Prozac since you stopped the other SSRI (Effexor).
Best wishes
