I second everything Sid had to say, I wish he would have been my advisor when I was in college.
Your doctor says he can keep your school from expelling you. I would present his signature to the school authorities to get their official reaction. If they ok it, then turn out to in fact "screw you over", that's just more grist for the ongoing law suit.
>>I want to do DBT.
But you only have til May to get this for free, and if you're assured that you're not going to get expelled from school, is that a green light then?
BTW The DBT I went to lasted SIX months, so it sounds like you'll get a lot of intensive education during the month you'relearning it. The whole thing sounds like a great adventure to me, to drop your academic studies for a while, go away for a month, and learn about the way your mind is put together could be an interesting proposition. You can always catch up on the mainstream academics but the DBT opportunity may not come around again, and who knows it might prove more useful right now, might even enhance the future academics you take on.
Of course, the choice is yours, but it's significant that your pdoc is coming on strong and making you feel guilty about your possible refusal. This could be nothing more than wounded paternalism on his part and thus easily dismissable, or he could be distraught that you won't let him take care of you. If you find yourself fixating on the dynamic btwn the two of you the only way out is to ask him what's going on.
It's a lot. These are complex decisions to sort out, and you're on a deadline to boot, so try to go easy on yourself, BREATHE, remember nothing is irreversible and you are not alone.
