I recently tried Amantadine with Zoloft. It was the first and only dopamine agonist Id ever tried. I was also taking the Amantadine for EPS and it definitely helped the EPS. It was different, thats for sure. It did activate the Zoloft, however at the same time left me so dizzy, confused and created so much somnolence I couldnt tolerate it. It also made my muscles stiffen up real bad, but in a different kind of way than EPS does. Its hard to describe, but the Amantadine loosened up things but at the same time created new stiffness...I guess some kind of acute dyskinesia. I understand all these dopamine agonist parkinsons drugs can create dyskinesias.
I found physically it made me feel much better. I didnt feel "tight" all the time, it loosened up my chest muscles and breathing, my sleep improved on it a lot and it also really increased my sex drive A LOT. I guess what Im trying to say is that physically the Amantadine made me feel MUCH better, but mentally it left me super dizzy and made me confused (psychotic?) feeling although I wonder if that would have gone away after a while.
Another thing about the Amantadine was that it did make me feel happier.Im thinking about trying the Amantadine again soon. I liked it a lot in some respects.
Id also tried Ritalin with Prozac before and the Amantadine was a gazillion times stronger than Ritalin. Ritalin increased my concentration a lot and made me be able to think more clearly.
BTW, if it was me Id try Mirapex vs. bromocriptine for TRD. Also, remember that all of these direct dopamine agonists can cause psychosis in people...thats pure dopamine dude.
