Here is my latest hypothesis of what may be
transpiring in my brain: post synaptic dopamine
autoreceptor overload. I've read about this phenomena
and I think it could explain mania/tolerance to medicines.Anyways, supposedly if one abuses a stimulant for
long enough the postsynaptic dopamine receptors can
flurish (not sure exactly what they are called) and
they give you the "buzz", but they also tell the
presynaptic neuron to stop releasing dopamine. So what if your brain pops up too many of these
postsynaptic receptors? For starters I could see a medicine like mirapex
causing massive nausea which it does for me, also
smoking, and other direct dopamine agonist. Also
a dopamine reuptake inhibitor may give weird results
as the dopamine would occupy these receptors and
may actually cause the neuron to greatly diminish
the release of dopamine. Things would be quite
backwards. Right? One would feel emotionally numb?
This may explain my experience on Lamictal, Wellbutrin,
Zoloft? So what may fix this problem. For starters something
that interrupts the feed back loop. I read up that
gabaergic medicines do this like Klonopin, and I
experience relief with Klonopin and Topamax. But it still doesn't get to the point that maybe
I could reverse this crummy problem if it existed
by holding the feedback mechanism constant and pounding
on the postsynapic receptors until they downregulated.
The feedback mechanism can be held constant with
an NMDA antagonist and Gabaergic medicines (I believe).Just a wild thought. Am i off in the weeds?
Hmm.
