crazychickuk,
I'm on 40mg Celexa/day. I got on it when my pdoc was switching me to WellbutrinSR. See, I was getting all goofy and my OCD kicked in big time. His brow furrowed and he said, "Patients who have OCD should never be without an SSRI." He summarily wrote a script for Celexa(Cipramil 'UK').
I started on 20mg per day. I was on that for about two weeks or so with some improvement. He doubled the dose to 40mg per day and that turned out to be the majic dose. I felt much better in a couple of weeks.
After a few months I noticed that my sexual performance was not so good (male). I had little desire and when I wanted to I just couldn't keep it up. My pdoc said that I had stabilized on my meds. He increased the WellbutrinSR(buproprion) by only 50mg per day (I take 200mg. per day now.) and he gave me a script for 3 months more of the 40mg Celexa saying that I could break the pill in half for a bit and try that.
Well, sex was great on only 20mg for that first week. After that week the boyfriend had a wee little talk with me. He claimed that I was edgy and not so fun to be with and that I seemed more frustrated and less relaxed. I immediately went back on the 40mg per day and have been stable ever since.
After about six months on the 40mg. Celexa, my bruxism (grinding teeth) became so bad that I had nearly bit my tongue off in my sleep and my jaw ached so bad that I could not chew. Also my restless legs syndrom was worse.
I saw the pdoc, he furrowed his brow again and he said that the Celexa was blocking the Dopamine from reaching the receptors. He wrote a script for 1mg of Klonopin(clonazepam) to be taken before bedtime.
This remedy has worked beautifully. There is no more rls or bruxism and I have almost no anxiety during the day.
I believe Celexa has been wonderful for my depression and my OCD. The combination that I am on is necessary. These drugs work together. Celexa is a wonderfully selective SSRI and many people tolerate it quite well.
Your mileage may vary and you may never need to add another drug to your arsenal... It's all a great experiment. Something will work. Good Luck!
