In reply to Best AD that Won't cause Irritability, posted by Krazy Kat on January 15, 2002, at 18:59:03
Hi Krazy,I became an uncle again today, so in the
spirit of pregnancy and getting past my manic
rage and puerile behavior, I am unbanning myself
for good.Ok,so I'm BPII and I barked up every possible tree
looking for an AD standalone to treat depression
and everytime it was a dismal failure. Only the
mood stabilizers worked. Do you really feel
that you can make it stand alone on an AD? has
this worked in the past?It seems the general trend in the ADs in terms
of agitation is:irritability------------------ >sleepiness
Prozac..Zoloft/Wellbutrin......Celexa..Remeron..Paxil..Serzone
Again, this is just my observation and everyone's
individual experience may very.So you may try Zoloft for starters. It may be
a little more tame than Prozac. It is stimulating,
but I think in general a little less so than
Prozac.BUT, here is another idea, how about adding
Zyprexa et, al to the Prozac ?
The Zyprexa will get rid of the Prozac
irritability and it is approved for
bipolar disorder (good substitute for the
anticonvulsant).regards,
john
> Does anyone have any suggestions re: this? As a BPII diagnosis, I know I shouldn't take an AD alone, but I want to get pregnant, and, at least for the first trimester, don't want to take anything in "Category C" if possible - that means all stabilizers, I've found out!
