Other mood stabilizers » bob

In reply to Lithium as monotherapy AD?, posted by bob on January 8, 2002, at 14:56:41

I saw an article in which Lithium prevented suicidality in unipolar outpatients, and indeed Lithium has a broad range of uses.

I've heard that mood stabilizers such as carbamazepine and lamotrigine have more of an antidepressant effect in the depression part of bipolar disorder, and carbamazepine has been especially studied in unipolars--which came out with 50% efficacy in a study I read. You may want to consider carbamazepine or lamotrigine or a combo: antidepressant + mood stabilizer (maybe carbamazepine).

Thanks for writing,
Calvary Hill
