As Ive mentioned before recently I have EPS and its not going away. Its gotten a little better, but its hanging around. It is very bothersome and Ive been getting by popping 50 mg benadryl at bedtime. This seems to loosen my muscles up and make my breathing better. I also feel the antidepressant much better when I take benadryl everyday, when I dont take benadryl daily I tighten up and I "numb up." Hard to describe. Benadryl just loosens me up good. I dont feel half bad as long as I take some benadryl everyday.
Anyway, Im going back to my Pdoc soon and Im gonna ask for a serious dopamine agonist to end this crap. Ive read Amantadine and various anti-cholinergics like Cogentin are standard treatment for EPS. However Ive been wondering if maybe a little Mirapex might be better than Amantadine? I have copies of the magazine doctors get "Monthly Prescribing Reference" and it lists Amantadine as being used for EPS but Mirapex only for "idiopathic parkinsons" disease. Mirapex is not listed in the PDR as being used for EPS, but I have read things about it being used for TRD, especially in retarded depression. Im wondering if Mirapex just might be better. Any thoughts on this?
My dx is treatment resistant, unipolar major depression, very severe and basically its become kind of a retarded or melancholic depression in the last year or two. Im really "dead" feeling, mopy and stuff. I feel EXTREMELY guilty much of the time. Like Ive done something wrong but I know I havent. I have had no sex drive for years since depression and my sex drive actually got worse when I developed EPS this past fall.
If the Selegiline MAOI patch was out already, Id jump on that, but unfortunately the way the FDA is I doubt I will have access to it anytime soon.
