My psychiatrist plans to start me on Zyban [a.k.a. wellbutrin, a.k.a. buproprion] for depression once I've weaned off Surmontil. He says it hasn't been licenced for the treatment of depression in the UK and some G.P.s won't prescribe it for uses other than stopping smoking.I'm reasonably confident that my G.P. will agree with him and give me the Zyban. If she doesn't, I'll be pretty upset I reckon.
So the bottom line is that it can be prescribed in the UK for depression but your psych and G.P. have to agree to it. Finding a psych in the UK who'll presribe it may not be too easy judging by my and others' experience. I can forward you the contact details of my psych if required.
HTH,
pete.
