You said that SSRI's worked better against your depression, but that you had insomnia. I think you should consider taking Ambien along with the SSRI's. It's a very good sleeping medication. Or, Trazodone can also be added to SSRI's to help with sleep. It's also very good.

It also, compared to the SSRIs (which I can't tolerate due to the insomnia they cause) had little anti-depressant efficacy- I wouldn't even bother to get out of bed to take a shower or shave anymore which is very unlike me- i'm usually a pretty hygenic person when not depressed.

I read in a psychopharmacology textbook that somewhere between 30 & 45 mg of Remeron the increased norepinephrine effects will counteract the strong antihistamine drowsiness effect of Remeron so then it should act like a normal antidepressant without all of the side effects of an SSRI.

Last night i upped my dosage to 45mg. I felt a difference. I did not feel as drowsy but still was able to fall asleep. I woke up around 4-5 hours later a bit anxious. I feel this is due to the norepinephrine reuptake. I actually felt a bit "turned on" due to the alpha 2 blockade. I had to take an ambien to fall back asleep. i then woke up 4 hours later. So total i got 8 hrs of pretty decent sleep. Then in the am, i took .5mg of xanax, which helped my anxiety during the day. I DID feel more stimulated at 45mg during the day, esp some libido!! Remeron at 30mg is more sedating, lowering my libido. At 15mg, is basically a sleeping pill.I got this from prescorn. com
15mg- basically blocks histamine
30mg, histamine and 5ht2a blockade
45mg higher- norpepinephrinemost p docts start you out at 30 mg which is in the middle. If extreme insomnia and anxiety are your problem, like me, id stay at 30mg. if i felt too blau and sedated, id up it to 45mg. At 15mg, id more likely take an ssri with it to improve seratonin reuptake, using 15mg as a sleeping aid >
any comment would be helpful.
at 45mg, again tonight, im adding ambien 10mg if i wake up. Then xanax to combat any anxiety next day. No too sedated nor too stimulated at this combo.
