In reply to long-term Luvox (fluvoxamine) users????, posted by jay on December 8, 2001, at 8:15:06
I wonder if our metabolism respond differently to meds just because it's us. I guess that doesn't make much sense.
What I'm trying to say, I never gained weight on any meds. I used Luvox for maybe 3-4 years until it lost its benefits, but I never gained on it.
If anything, I tend to lose weight when I'm very down. Food has no taste or appeal & it takes too much effort to cook right. When everythings working right, I go back to my normal weight because I'll eat again.
But I've always been conscious of eating healthy so maybe that's why it's not a problem. My experiences with weight & ADs may not be typical.

Plus, it didn't seem to put me into the mania Paxil or the other SRI's did. Some of the data from a number of medline searches indicate this med doesn't seem to cause horrid weight gain quite like the other SRI's, but it just helps you keep your weight in your own 'healthy' range. (This med is indicated for eating disorders for this reason. Although Prozac is too indicated for some eating disorders, the research seems to be more on Luvox.)

I know...YMMV...etc. I am just loking to use a med not to so much lose weight...but to keep me in a bit more of a "healthy" range...and of course do it's little bit for depression/anxiety. (I got benzo's to help with the taper.)
